A particular way of pronouncing something.  The stronger or louder part of a word or sentence. a mark over a letter showing a particular way of pronouncing it.

Example:

  • He speaks with an American accent. 
  • In the word ‘letter’ the accent is on the first syllable. 
  • Café has an accent on the ‘e’.
